San Diego Rescue Mission — Website Improvement
San Diego Rescue Mission — Website Improvement. A redesigned site that helps residents in crisis find the right service fast, shows donors exactly what their gift provides, and gives volunteers a clear view of open opportunities. Status: In Planning. Team: Aarav Nadar (Scrum Master), Ryden Bercovitch (Technologist/Developer).
San Diego Rescue Mission has served the city's homeless and food-insecure community since 1955 — emergency shelter, a residential program, a children's resource center, and hunger relief.
Live SiteThe current site buries the services people actually need under walls of static text, which makes it hardest to use for the people who need it most: someone in crisis.
Get Help NowKey Features
Residents filter available services by need and location instead of reading one long static list — filter by need (shelter, meals, resources) and by location.
Donors see exactly what any dollar amount provides, for one-time or monthly gifts.
Volunteers filter by availability and see live spots remaining per slot.
Any program page is reachable by typing its name into a header search box.
Every page checked for alt text, contrast, and correct rendering on a 375px mobile screen.
Impact
| Change | What it does for the user |
|---|---|
| Filterable Get Help Now | Cuts the time it takes someone in crisis to find the right service |
| Donation Impact Calculator | Shows donors the concrete outcome of their gift |
| Volunteer slot filtering | Gives volunteers real-time visibility into open slots |
| Site-wide search | Makes every program reachable without navigating the full menu |
| Accessibility & mobile audit | Ensures the site works on any device, not just desktop |
Scope
A redesign of the Get Help Now, Ways to Give, and Volunteer pages, plus site-wide search, so each user group can find what they need in a few clicks.
We are not rebuilding pages that already work. The redesign is limited to the three pages above plus search.
The people least able to fight a confusing website are the ones this site exists to serve.
