OCS Assignments System

Students are making OCS grading faster and more reliable. The work includes AI grading with a key each user supplies, out of 1 point per assignment, student grades that sit alongside AI grades instead of overwriting them, and admin tools to correct bad submission records. Other pieces are lessons standardized through CRUD operations, data collection for a reworked self-assessment, and teacher and grader screens on the Pages frontend so teachers never need to use the Spring admin views.

Oncology and Kids Cancer Association

CSP

This capstone project aims to connect and educate both cancer families and cancer patients. We aim to create a platform where people can learn more about cancer on a biological level through interactive learning modules, as well as connect cancer patients through interactive multiplayer games. Rather than cancer websites having long strings of text, people of all ages will be able to easily navigate, learn, and play through these new and advanced modules.

UESL Accessible Game Maker 2.0

An accessible game creation platform guiding participants through templates, live themes, and IDD-focused comfort profiles before keyboard-friendly playtesting. Versioned state validates choices, restores browser drafts, and exports engine-ready configurations for UESL’s advanced editor and GameEnginev1.2.

Classroom Presence System

A design-based research project asking whether classroom presence can be measured with zero teacher effort. Three low-effort inputs, RFID tap, QR scan, and face scan, are evaluated in parallel against a shared presence engine and the bell schedule to track instructional minutes and show who is missing in real time.

OCS Gamified Toolchain Trail

Students are extending the OCS onboarding system to guide students through development-environment setup and verify that their machines are ready for classroom development. The project includes a cross-platform Python verification agent, tool and project checks, GitHub identity, remediation feedback, and integration with the OCS Analytics System. Verification and gameplay results will flow into the existing Java/Spring/SQL backend, where student activity can contribute to status, grading, progress, and regression tracking. The goal is to provide students and teachers with a working-status view of development environments while connecting machine-level activity to the broader OCS learning system.

OCS Admin & Security Team

The OCS Admin & Security team maintains the systems that keep OCS operational, recoverable, and secure. Administration includes backup and restore, schema upgrades, AWS RDS/S3/EC2 operations, administrative MVC/Thymeleaf tools, user recovery and password services, mentor and parent authorization, and year-to-year system resets and data pruning. Security examines how the OCS application can be compromised, including isolated Code Runner containers, protection against injected or unsafe student code, JWT and cookie security, and security boundaries across the Java/Spring and Python/Flask systems. Together, the work moves students from building application features to maintaining and protecting a production system.

OCS Communication System - class announcement chat on the CSA course page

OCS Communication Systems

Students are extending the OCS communication system with chat, announcements, assignment discussions, direct messaging, calendar integration, and reusable presentation components. The work includes maintaining the real-time WebSocket service and connecting these features to the existing course site, backend APIs, security, and data model. Students will also develop the OCS SASS grammar—a small, purpose-built styling system for consistent, responsive, reusable components across the OCS GitHub Pages ecosystem.
